We all hope you have enjoyed the festive period as much as we did. To kick start 2009 we have some great news to share with you from the end of 2008. To start with - a huge thank you from Jim Sugden for the generosity he received from everyone who sponsored his last great charity climb/walk...

In August Jim Sugden and 3 friends (Andy Butler, Russell Slann and Allan Comins) undertook the National 3 Peaks Challenge which involves climbing the highest mountains in England (Scafell Pike at 3209 feet), Scotland (Ben Nevis at 4409 feet) and Wales (Snowdon at 3560 feet) all within 24 hours. In total the challenge involved not only around 26 miles of walking, totalling over 11000 feet of ascent and descent in 13 hours, but also over 500 miles of driving in app 10 hours between the peaks.

What's New at Pfizer

i-slidepoint

NJW launched its new suite of web base products at the WorkTECH 2008 show at the British Library during November. Amongst the new innovations is i-slidepoint - a secure online presentation facility to streamline constantly changing presentation material.

I-slidepoint is an online menu driven presentation environment that can be updated from any web enabled device, including mobile devices. Once live the data and illustrations can be changed by any number of authorised users enabling anybody viewing or even in mid-presentation will see all the changes appear the instant they are saved.

Pfizer Pharmaceuticals are the first to take advantage of the new NJW service by having their confidential Master Planning material designed in the new editable format. The big advantage for Pfizer is that their key personnel can now gain access to all their essential data used for successful Master Planning - always up-to-the-minute and from anywhere in the world - ultimately saving them a lot of time and money.

James and Giant Peaks

MacMillan Cancer Support

As well as being an ambition for many years, the challenge was also to raise money for the MacMillan Cancer Support charity. Training, planning and logistics etc was done by the climbers and a support team over a period of about 6 months and thanks goes to Martine, Ian and Basil who helped with driving, planning etc.

The challenge started at 17:00 at Ben Nevis, the last part of the descent being in the dark. Then we drove through the night to Scafell Pike in the Lake District and climbing started at dawn. The final drive was down to Snowdonia and the last peak. We were back at the base of Snowdon at 16:35 having successfully completed in 23 hours 35 minutes.

Many people donated to the cause and we must thank friends, family, colleagues and some local companies who generously supported us. In total we raised £3361.01 and presented a cheque to the local MacMillan representative Roland Martin who provides the following quote:-

"The guys clearly demonstrated what a small group of friends with determination can achieve. They met their challenge and raised substantial amounts to improve the lives of people living with cancer. The money will help grow Macmillan‚s vital services, such as support to ease the increased financial burden people can experience after a cancer diagnosis. We thank them enormously"

New Workplace solution for BAE

BAE – Workplace Services

The management of Real Estate and Facilities support services encompasses an ever-increasing range of activities for Chris Delahunt and his team at BAE, Farnborough.

The team offer a fully co-ordinated approach to Real Estate and Facility Management. The new service is called ‘Workplace Services’ and includes the following key services:-

Having up-to-date dynamic information online is essential for the new ‘Workplace Services’ team and NJW have implemented an online Web based Real Estate & FM management dashboard.

The Farnborough buildings have been surveyed by the NJW professional services team, floor-plans linked into Archibus/FM CAFM and finally a Top HAT Portal provides dynamic information to the BAE community.
Google maps provide finger tip drill downs to the site, drawings are online and dynamic Space Management data is available to the BAE community including stacking diagrams and all manner of statistics.

3 million reasons to implement FM Systems

FM:Systems - excellence

FM:Systems signed NJW up to be the European partner for their award winning Integrated Workplace Management Solution in the summer.

Since then NJW have mastered the software as experts and the Gartner organisation have included FM:Systems as one of the market leaders in their 2008 IWMS report.

New clients who are being serviced by NJW include HSBC with over 3 million sqft, Cable & Wireless and a new contract with Yahoo for a European portfolio exceeding 300,000 sqft.
